We are raising vital funds for Familial Pulmonary Fibrosis (FPF) which includes a diagnosis of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). IPF is an incurable and fatal lung disease, the cause of which is unknown. IPF is a condition unfamiliar to many people and the subject of limited research. This is despite estimates that IPF affects >5000 people a year, which is equivalent to the number of women diagnosed each year with Ovarian Cancer in the UK, and the numbers appear to be increasing.
IPF has become an important cause for our family. We lost Elaine in 1995, aged 46, and recently her sister Pat in February 2012, aged 65. Elaine and Pat lost their own Father and Uncle to the same condition (both in their early Forties). We all miss Elaine and Pat dearly. Though they were both tiny in stature they more than made up for this in personality and were both such vibrant, fun, and caring individuals. As a family we hope to turn this tragic loss into a positive by doing all we can to help fund research that will identify the causes of this insidious disease and find new effective treatments.
The name of the Fund is in tribute to Elaine and Pat who spent may happy days visiting their Grandparents and other family at the Lighthouse in Dingle, Co. Kerry, Ireland. The Dingle Lighthouse still holds a special place in the hearts of those that knew and loved Elaine and Pat.
We hope to keep you all up-to-date with future Fund raising events on this page.
If you plan on holding your own fund-raising event you can set up your own sponsorship or gift page that links directly to The Lighthouse Breath of Life Fund.
Thank you so much for all your kind donations
